Groundschool

One To One Groundschool

Flight Academy Barton offers groundschool to accompany all types of flying tuition or to help you with your written examinations relating to our training. We use the latest in interactive software and training tools to ensure that your groundschool instruction is completed to the highest possible standard.

We also operate the simulator software for use on the radio telephony groundschool and test. For Garmin 1000 glass cockpit training we have fully interactive simulator and CBT software available for your use.

PPL Groundschool Courses

Flight Academy Barton also offers courses for each of the 6 main PPL or NPPL examinations covering the following subjects:

  • Aviation Law & Procedures
  • Meteorology
  • Human Performance
  • Navigation
  • Flight Planning
  • Technical

The courses run on a 6 week revolving programme and are conducted every Sunday in our well equipped briefing rooms. The price for each course also includes the cost of your written examination for each subject.

PPL – The Exams

Air Law and Operational Procedures

Rules, regulations and privileges relevant to the holder of a PPL, rules of the air, air traffic regulations and services, visual flight rules and flight safety.

Aircraft (General) and Principles Of Flight

Airframe, Powerplant, Systems, Instruments and Principles of flight.

Flight Performance and Planning

Mass and Balance, Aircraft Performance.

Human Performance and Limitations

Basic Physiology, Basic Psychology, Judgement and Decision Making relevant to flight operations.

Meteorology

Covering all aspects of Aviation Weather

Navigation and Radio Aids

Covering all aspects of Navigation and includes Radio Aids for Navigation.

JAR-FCL Communications (PPL)

Radio Telephony procedures as applied to PPL (A).

All theoretical knowledge examinations must be passed within a period of 18 months and the pass will remain valid for licence issue for a period of 24 months from the date of successful completion of the examinations. All theoretical knowledge examinations must have been completed before taking the skill test.

All the recommended manuals, aeronautical charts and flight equipment that are required can be purchased through the Flight Academy Barton Pilots Shop.

Facilities

Our purpose built training facilities provide the ideal environment for flight training and ground study. We have dedicated briefing rooms, a student lounge where you can relax after your lesson or sit in a quiet environment to catch up with your studies with a tea or coffee. There’s even an area outside on our decked veranda.

Medical

In addition, an applicant for a JAR-FCL PPL (A) shall hold a valid JAR-FCL Class 1 or Class 2 medical certificate issued by a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Doctor, before you can go solo. We can advise you of the nearest Doctor.
